The Orcas Island generation plant was completed at a total cost of $150,000. The original plant consisted of two Worthington General Electric diesel engines. Engine No. 1 was 50 kW and Engine No. 2 was 100 kW; both were 2400 volts. “The extremely rugged terrain of the island made transportation of machinery and materials difficult, and winding roads impeded construction.”
