OPALCO Adopts Underground Plan

The Board instituted a five-year storm abatement program to bury power lines in areas that were damaged by the storms of 1989 and 1990.  The program included a surcharge of 0.25 cent per kWh on all bills.  General Manager Doug Bechtel wrote, “These storms have changed the way OPALCO does business.  We are going to fix this system so that it does not happen again.”
